We don’t manage pain. We treat it.

A vertebra fracture or break is dangerous and requires surgical treatment. This type of procedure is called kyphoplasty, during which a cement-like substance is injected into your vertebra to assure stability and reduce pains. Kyphoplasty is a procedure that lasts around sixty minutes, although the duration depends on the number of vertebrae affected.

Medical conditions that may lead to kyphoplasty are:

  • Osteoporosis – The loss of calcium in bones may result in a decrease of strength in the bone structure, while it may increase the risk of fracture of the vertebral body. If you are suffering from this medical condition, your doctor may suggest kyphoplasty to prevent future bone fractures.
  • Cancer – Patients with cancer are at danger of painful vertebral fractures. Kyphoplasty is a safe and effective therapy choice that quickly relieves pain and enhances bodily function and vertebral strength in patients with cancer.
  • Vertebral hemangioma – Kyphoplasty may offer fewer procedural risks during the implementation, but experts acknowledge this procedure as safe.

During kyphoplasty, you are given local anesthetics. Once the area is numb, the surgeon inserts a trocar (hollow needle) into your bone. Once the cement is safely injected in the bone, they use digital imaging exams to confirm it’s evenly spread. Once the cement mixture is in place, the surgeon removes the trocar. This medical procedure does not require stitches in most cases, and patients can usually go home after a few hours.
